Indian Defense Ministry: After the temporary end of Operation Sindoor, the Indian Army has made emergency purchases of drones, military vehicles, radars and other necessary military equipment worth about Rs 2000 crore. All these weapons and military equipment will be used in anti-terrorism operations. In the last one and a half months, the Defense Ministry has signed a total of 13 such agreements.

The Ministry of Defense has finalized these contracts to strengthen the operational capability of the Indian Army in operations against terrorism. The Ministry of Defense issued a statement on Tuesday saying that out of the total approved outlay of Rs 2,000 crore for the Indian Army, these contracts worth Rs 1981.90 crore have been finalized.

Long process for purchase of weapons

The purpose of this purchase, executed through fast-track procedures under the emergency procurement system, is to increase situational awareness, firepower, mobility and security for soldiers deployed in operations against terrorism. According to the Defense Ministry, this acquisition was completed in a short time frame to ensure rapid capacity enhancement. In fact, the purchase of weapons has to go through a long process. In such a situation, military equipment is not supplied to the army on time. For this, the Defense Ministry has opened a way of emergency procurement for the army. Through this process, the army can immediately purchase any weapon or defense equipment.

Equipment purchased by the Indian Defense Ministry

The list of types of weapons and equipment that the Defence Ministry will purchase is as follows:

• Unified Drone Detection and Interdiction System (IDDIS)

• Low Level Light Weight Radar (LLLR)

• Very Short Range Air Defense System (VSHORDS)-Launcher and Missile

• Remotely piloted aerial vehicles.

• Loitering munitions including vertical take-off and landing systems.

• Drones of different categories.

• bulletproof vest.

• Ballistic helmet.

•Quick Reaction Fighting Vehicles (QRAV) – Heavy and Medium.

• Night vision devices for rifles.

This procurement reflects the ministry's commitment to equip the Indian Army with modern and fully indigenous systems to meet emerging security challenges. This emergency procurement arrangement is important towards bridging immediate capability gaps and ensuring timely availability of critical operational equipment.

Action in response to Pahalgam attack

To avenge the Pahalgam attack (22 April), Operation Sindoor was launched on 6-7 May against terrorist organizations operating from Pakistan. Under this, eight (08) terrorist hideouts were destroyed in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK).

Pakistan launched drone and missile attacks on India

In response to Operation Sindoor, Pakistan had carried out drone and missile attacks on India. In such a situation, India had carried out major air strikes on 11 airbases of the Pakistani Air Force. On May 10, Pakistan had appealed to India for a ceasefire. In such a situation, India had temporarily stopped military operations. However, India had also said that Operation Sindoor has been stopped, it has not ended. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced that if there is any terrorist attack on India again, it will be considered a war. In such a situation, the Indian Army was in dire need of sharpening its counter-terrorism warfare. In such a situation, emergency procurement of Rs 2000 crore has been done.
