Three persons have been booked for allegedly abusing and assaulting a police sub-inspector (PSI) in the front of the Pydhonie police station. Taking a serious note of the incident, senior officers have directed strict action against the trio – Azizul Sheikh, 42, Noor Sheikh, 34 and Saifuddin Sheikh, 41.
According to the FIR, PSI Irfan Sayyid, 33, had just finished his duty on May 7, changed his uniform and stepped out at around 10.45pm. He spotted the trio loudly abusing each other on the police station premises. When Sayyid asked them to calm down, they abused him too, shouting, “Who are you? Do not teach us,” before assaulting him, said the FIR.
Even when the PSI told them that he is a police officer, the trio didn't budge. “You might be a police officer, but do not interfere in our matter,” they allegedly threatened. To avoid a law and order situation outside the police station, Sayyid asked them to come inside and touched one of them. However, one of the accused hit him hard on the hand, grabbed him by the throat and continued abusing him, as per the FIR.
In the meantime, another officer arrived at the scene and Sayyid was about to leave when one of the accused started recording a video, accusing the police of bullying them. They further threatened the officer, saying they would drag him to court for intimidating them, said the FIR.
Based on the PSI's complaint, a case has been registered against the trio under the Police Act and section 121(1) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt to deter a public servant from duty) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
