Mumbai: A shocking case of fraud has been reported from Mumbai's Girgaon area, where a diamond agent was duped of a precious sapphire and diamond ring worth ₹27 lakh in a deceptive ring swap scheme.
According to police, the victim, Sunil Jhaveri, a diamond agent, was looking to sell a family-owned sapphire and diamond ring. He was approached by two individuals, identified as Mahavir and Rahul, who posed as buyers introduced through a known acquaintance. The duo visited Jhaveri’s residence under the pretext of inspecting the ring before purchase.
While engaging in casual conversation, they examined the ring. At one point, Jhaveri stepped inside briefly to fetch a box to store the ring. Taking advantage of the moment, the accused allegedly swapped the original ring with an identical-looking fake and left the house, promising to return with the payment.
