In a significant move to address long-standing grievances of the transport sector , the Maharashtra Government has constituted a high-level committee under the chairmanship of the state’s Transport Commissioner. The decision follows directives issued by the Minister for Transport during a key meeting held on June 26, 2025, which focused on the challenges faced by various transport stakeholders across the state.
As per cercular issued by state government on Tuesday, newly formed committee aims to provide a structured platform for dialogue and resolution of issues affecting goods transporters, private bus operators, and school transport services. The Joint Transport Commissioner (Enforcement-2) will serve as the Member Secretary of the committee.
"The committee comprises senior officials such as the Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Mumbai; the Superintendent of Police from the Office of the Additional Director General of Police (Traffic); and the Additional Transport Commissioner, Maharashtra State. It also includes prominent representatives from leading transport organizations such as Prasanna Patwardhan of the Bus Operators Confederation of India, Bal Malkit Singh of the All India Motor Transport Congress, Deepak Naik of the Mumbai Bus Owners' Association, Udaysingh Barge of the Vahatukdar Bachavkruti Sanghatana, Maharashtra, and Pravin Paithankar, President of the Maharashtra Heavy Transport and Interstate Container Operators Association" read the cercular issued by Maharashtra government.
The committee has been directed to study these challenges in depth and submit a comprehensive report with actionable recommendations within one month from the issuance of the resolution.

"The committee is tasked with examining a wide range of concerns including delays in permit issuance, regulatory compliance challenges, grievances related to enforcement, safety and infrastructure issues, and coordination problems between RTOs and law enforcement agencies. With Maharashtra’s growing dependence on road transport for both goods and passenger movement, the transport sector has long demanded systemic reforms and consistent engagement with the government" official added.
