When someone dies in the family, then after performing the last rites, Shradh is performed. Shradh includes Pinddaan, Tarpan, Brahmin Bhoj, Panchbali Karma etc. According to the scriptures, performing Shradh satisfies the soul of the dead person. If Shradh is not performed, then it remains unsatisfied and troubles the family. The unsatisfied soul curses, which stops the progress of the family. Who can perform Shradh? Can women perform Shradh or not? Do women have the right to Pinddaan or not? This has been told in the scriptures.

Who can perform Shradh?
1. If the father dies in the family, then only the son has the right to perform Shradh.
2. If a father has more than one son, then the eldest son has the right to perform his last rites and Shradh.
3. Only the eldest son performs all the tasks from the last rites to Ekadasha and Dwadasha.
4. If the elder brother is not available for any reason, then the younger brother can perform the Shraddha of the father with his permission.
5. If you have a joint family, then the elder brother should perform the Shraddha even during Pitru Paksha. If all the brothers live separately, then they should perform the Shraddha of the father separately during Pitru Paksha.
Who can perform the Shraddha if there is no son?
If someone does not have a son, then his Shraddha can be performed by grandson, great grandson, wife, brother, daughter's son, nephew, father, mother, daughter-in-law, sister, nephew or other family members.
According to Vishnu Purana, only a person born in his family or Sapinda can perform the Shraddha. This includes son, brother, nephew, grandson, great grandson or other male. If there is no one in the person's family, then anyone from the maternal side can perform the Shraddha.
Can women perform Shraddha and Pind Daan?
In the scriptures, women also have the right to perform Shradh and Pinddaan, but this is possible only when there is no man on the father's side. According to the scriptures, women have the right to perform Shradh if there is no maternal or paternal family. All the rituals like Pinddaan etc. of the father should be performed by the son only, but if there is no son, the wife can do it. If there is no wife, a sibling can do it.

How will the Shradh of an orphan be performed?
If a person has no one, he is an orphan, he dies, then his friend can perform the last rites and Shradh. According to Markandeya Purana, the king is considered the brother of all, if a person has no one, then the king should perform his last rites and other rituals with the money of that person.
