In these, he scored 811 runs with the help of one century and five half-centuries. He was last seen playing in this format against England last year when the team came on a tour of India.

Sehwag raised questions about not including Shreyas on the team.

Sehwag told Cricbuzz- that Shreyas Iyer has had a great IPL season, he is also the captain. Why can't he play Test cricket? He can play all three formats. When you are in good form, it is good to take him on tour as there is a high chance of his performance. I want to see him in the Test team. If he adopts the same attitude in Test cricket as well, it will benefit the team. If you have 2-3 such players then it creates fear in the opposition team. England plays at the pace of 6-7 runs/over. If the Indian team plays even at the pace of 4-5 runs/over, they can put pressure on them.

Iyer shone in Ranji and IPL.
The right-handed batsman had performed brilliantly in Ranji Trophy 2024-25. He scored 480 runs in seven innings for Mumbai at an average of 68.57 with two centuries. Now he is leading the Punjab Kings in IPL 2025 and is in great form. In 13 innings, Shreyas has scored 488 runs at a strike rate of 172.43.
