Samantha Ruth Prabhu, one of the most popular actors in the Indian film industry, recently shared that she turned down around 15 brand endorsement offers last year. The decision, which cost her “crores and crores of money,” was made as part of her conscious shift towards promoting responsible and ethical choices. Speaking in an interview with Foodpharmer, Samantha explained that she now carefully evaluates every brand before associating with it.
“I’ve said no to and let go of almost 15 brands just last year—and of course, that meant crores and crores of money lost,” she said, adding, “Now, every time there’s an endorsement, I vet my brands with three doctors before I agree to endorse them.”
A Change in Perspective
Samantha reflected on how her understanding of success has transformed over the years. Recalling her early days in the industry, she said, “When I entered this industry in my 20s, the symbol of success was based on the number of projects you had, the number of brands you endorsed, and how many brands wanted your face on their products. I was very happy that all these big multinational brands wanted me as their brand ambassador.”
However, with time and personal experiences, her views shifted dramatically. “But today, I realise that I couldn't have been more wrong. I was almost forced to introspect on my choices, and I knew I had to follow what felt right. Today, I feel that my younger self should apologise to my older self for doing all that nonsense,” she said.
Health Challenges and Personal Growth
In 2022, Samantha was diagnosed with myositis, an autoimmune condition. The diagnosis led her to take a break from acting and re-evaluate many aspects of her life and career. She returned to work with the Telugu film Kushi and later appeared in Citadel: Hunny Bunny alongside Varun Dhawan.
Her health journey not only made her more conscious about physical wellness but also made her rethink the messages she sends to her followers. She now chooses to align herself with causes and products that reflect her values, especially regarding health and wellness.
Why She Avoided Podcast Appearances
Despite her fame, Samantha has remained away from major podcast interviews. In her conversation with Foodpharmer, she revealed the reason behind this choice. “We all know what has been clickbait for me over the last few years. Even if I have never said anything, it was never my intention. So, I would rather stay away, not fuel it, not give it wings,” she said.
This podcast felt different to her, she explained, because “it is centered around health,” and allowed her to engage from the perspective of a health enthusiast, rather than a celebrity promoting herself.
Samantha will next appear in The Family Man Season 3, as well as Rakt Brahmand: The Bloody Kingdom, both created by Raj & DK.
