Man breaks into a Bengaluru mobile store naked to steal phones for his girlfriend, as he doesn't want to dirty his new clothes

In a strange incident in South Bengaluru, a 27-year-old man from Assam broke into a mobile phone shop at night, wearing nothing but a face mask. His reason? He didn’t want to spoil his new clothes while crawling through a narrow hole in the wall.

The man, Imranullah, entered the store—Hanuman Telecom in Hongasandra—after midnight on May 9. He had made a two-foot-wide hole in the wall and crawled inside without any clothes on. He claimed he had bought new clothes and didn’t want them to get dirty or torn.

Police were first confused and thought a gang might be involved in the burglary. But CCTV footage showed just one man inside the store, moving around confidently. He used a mobile torch for light and carefully chose only expensive phones, ignoring the cheaper ones.

The theft happened between 1:30am and 3am when the shop owner, Dinesh (who is from Rajasthan), was away due to a family emergency. At 4pm the next day, Dinesh checked the CCTV footage from his phone and saw what had happened. He quickly informed his friend Vasanaram, who works at another mobile shop nearby.

“When I reached the shop, I saw the hole in the wall and called the police,” said Vasanaram. Several costly phones were missing from the display.

The CCTV video clearly showed two people: one outside the shop acting as a lookout, and the other—naked, masked, and carrying a bag—inside the store. The man avoided the cameras’ direct view and picked only high-value phones.

Police arrested Imranullah the next day. He told them he needed money to impress his girlfriend and planned to sell the phones on the black market.

Forensic teams collected evidence from the shop. Police say the break-in was well planned. Imranullah knew where the cameras were and where the expensive phones were kept. He even made the hole just big enough for someone of his size.

Thanks to the shop’s CCTV system, the police acted quickly and recovered the stolen phones. Dinesh praised the police, saying, “I was away for just one night and this happened. I’m glad the police acted fast.”

Police have filed a case under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for housebreaking and theft. Imranullah is now in custody while the police continue looking for his accomplice.
