The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has secured the top spot among Indian universities in the 2025 QS Asia University Rankings.
IIT Delhi climbed two places from last year to reach 44th in the continental rankings. This achievement pushes IIT Delhi ahead of IIT Bombay, which fell eight spots to 48th place.
Several factors contributed to IIT Delhi's rise, including the impact of its research, improved academic reputation, and an increase in faculty members with PhDs.
“There’s a lot of emphasis on tech advancement, startups and solving problems that will help society,” said Prof Vivek Buwa, head of IIT-D’s ranking cell and dean of planning.
The rankings also highlighted IIT Delhi's success in research output, with the institution averaging seven publications per faculty member annually. The university also scored highly in academic reputation, particularly for its employment reputation among Asian universities.
IIT Delhi's international collaborations also played a role in its ranking. The university is currently involved in almost 116 research projects with universities globally.
