IG Drones on Thursday said that it has been granted the patent for India’s first indigenous defence drone simulator, a move hailed as a major step towards technological sovereignty and defence self-reliance under the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
The simulator, initially unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during Defence Expo 2022, has been developed entirely in India.
It is designed to offer realistic, high-fidelity training to the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, and paramilitary forces for combat drone operations in complex scenarios such as GPS-denied zones and coordinated multi-drone missions, the company said.
The simulator is built using AI-based technologies, physics engines, and real-time terrain dynamics, and replaces reliance on imported systems and offers a secure, cost-effective alternative rooted in domestic innovation.
“This patent is a proud declaration of India’s technological resurgence,” said Bodhisattwa Sanghapriya, Founder & CEO of IG Drones. “Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Modi ji, we are not just building products—we are building the future of Bharat’s defence. This Made-in-India drone simulator is a salute to our nation’s armed forces, scientists, and innovators.”
With this achievement, IG Drones becomes the first Indian company to secure intellectual property rights for a defence drone simulation platform, an area that was previously dominated by foreign technology providers.
The simulator is seen as a strategic asset, equipping India’s armed forces with tools to strengthen preparedness and reduce training risks.
IG Drones has deployed indigenous drones, including VTOL, FPV, and kamikaze variants, during Operation Sindoor for surveillance, mapping, and precision strikes.
