In a city like Bengaluru, where haggling over autorickshaw fares is often a routine part of everyday life, one man’s recent Reddit post has captured widespread attention — and for all the right reasons. His story, highlighting an unusually honest auto driver, quickly resonated with readers online.

According to the passenger, he booked an autorickshaw for an 11-kilometre trip across the city and was genuinely surprised when the driver chose to operate the fare meter — something many residents rarely experience. At the end of the ride, the displayed fare was just Rs 166, a refreshing change from the often exorbitant rates that locals frequently endure.

Eager to share his positive encounter, the man took to Reddit, titling his post, "Good auto drivers still exist in Bengaluru!" His heartfelt story immediately struck a chord with the online community.

Fellow Redditors flooded the comments section, expressing a mix of astonishment and happiness. Many remarked on how rare it was to come across such integrity among auto drivers, given the city’s reputation.

One user remarked, "I hope you thanked the auto anna. He truly deserves recognition."

Another chimed in, writing, "May blessings be upon drivers who stick to the meter. They are truly heaven-sent!"

Several commenters expressed their disbelief, noting how uncommon it was to find drivers willing to charge by the meter. Others joined in, recounting their own frustrating experiences involving outrageous demands and the struggle to find honest drivers.

One particularly astonished user exclaimed, "What? On meter? That's something rare and incredible!"

Another shared a bitter memory: "A driver once asked me Rs 900 for a trip from Silk Board to Bellandur — just 10 kilometers—and even threw in some insults for free."

Nostalgia also found its way into the conversation. A user reminisced, "Back in the ’90s, when I was in school, my parents and I could travel 10 kilometres in an auto for about Rs 50. Seeing someone stick to the meter brings back old memories."

Stories of good Samaritans among Bengaluru’s auto drivers seem to pop up once in a while. In 2024, another driver named Girish warmed hearts when he went out of his way to return a lost gold chain to a passenger named Chitra. She praised Girish’s honesty in a heartfelt post on social media, bringing more positivity to the conversation about auto drivers.

The autorickshaw service Nagara Metered Auto later confirmed the incident, adding that Girish had operated on the fare meter that day, which made it easier to track and recover lost items — showcasing how meter-based services also help maintain accountability.
