AHPI revokes its decision to suspend cashless medical payments for Bajaj Allianz customers

Policy holders of Bajaj Allianz can breathe a sigh of relief as the Association of Healthcare Providers India (AHPI) and Bajaj revoked its decision to suspend cashless transactions at AHPI member hospitals.

“The matter has been resolved in the interest of policyholders and citizens who must never face interruptions in their access to cashless healthcare. Cashless access is the backbone of health insurance and should never be compromised,” said Dr. Tapan Singhel, MD and CEO, Bajaj Allianz General Insurance and chairman General Insurance council.

Bajaj Allianz and AHPI members met on Thursday, after AHPI early this week warned the former that it would suspend cashless facilities for the policyholders of Bajaj Allianz from September 1.

“Insurers have always worked directly with hospitals to address operational realities and we will continue to do so in a spirit of partnership,” Singhel said in a statement on Friday after the issue was resolved.

AHPI has over 20,000 hospitals in its network across the country, including major hospital chains such as Max Super Speciality and Fortis Escorts.

Singhel also emphasised the need for a healthcare regulator to avoid such instances. “episodes of this nature only reinforce the urgent need for a strong health regulator which we have been proposing for a while now to safeguard citizens’ interests and ensure transparency and fairness across the healthcare ecosystem,” he said.

A similar notice - to suspend cashless payments - was also sent to CARE Health Insurance formerly known as Religare Health Insurance, with AHPI seeking a response to the same by August 31, 2025.

In April this year, hospitals in Ahmedabad decided to suspend cashless treatment services for Star Health and Tata AIG General Insurance customers citing claim denials, unjustified deductions, and non-renewal of tariffs. They resumed the cashless services after a month, post deliberations.
