Digha: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed concern over the confinement of 100 Bengali-speaking migrant workers in Odisha. Banerjee said that she has asked chief secretary Manoj Pant to talk to his Odisha counterpart to resolve the issue.
"I got information that 100 migrant workers are being held captive in Odisha's Cuttack. Some of our people are held at Balasore PS as well. Why are these incidents happening daily," Banerjee asked.
"Why are they targeting Bengal? The migrant workers with valid documents are confined or detained. Every day, similar incidents are happening. We have recently rescued migrant workers (from Rajasthan)," Banerjee said.
After the CM intervened on Tuesday, around 400 migrant workers from West Bengal's Itahar, who were confined in Rajasthan, were released.
