Bijapur encounter: Bodies of three naxals, including platoon commander recovered

Bijapur (Chhattisgarh) [India], November 9 (ANI): Bodies of three Naxals, including of a platoon commander with a bounty of Rs 8 lakh, killed in an encounter in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh, were recovered by security forces on Saturday, a senior police official said.
A large cache of weapons was also recovered from the area, Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj P said.
The encounter took place on Friday between security forces from the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the elite CoBRA unit and Naxalites in the forested hills of Rekhapalli-Komathpalli, located at the tri-junction of Usoor-Basaguda-Pamed.
The security forces recovered the bodies of the Naxals, along with a large cache of weapons from the site.


Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj P confirmed the operation, stating that the bodies of the three Naxals were recovered from the location. He added that one self-loading rifle (SLR), one sniper weapon, and several other rifles were seized. A search operation is still underway in the area.

"On 8th November there was an exchange of fire between the security forces (District Reserve Guard, Special Task Force, Central Reserve Police Force, and elite unit CoBRA) and Naxalites on the forested hills of Rekhapalli-Komathpalli, located at the tri-junction of Usoor-Basaguda-Pamed in the district. The bodies of three Naxalites have been recovered... One self-loading rifle (SLR), one sniper weapon, and rifles have been seized," IGP Sundarraj P said.

Police officials stated that the encounter was a significant success in weakening Naxal activities in Bijapur.
