Along with this, the government also gives the benefit of health services to former central employees. For this, CGHS and ECHS cards are issued. What is the difference between ECHS and CGHS?
Let us tell you that both ECHS and CGHS cards are for central employees. Through these cards, they get the benefit of government health services. The full form of ECHS is Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme and CGHS is Central Government Health Scheme.
CGHS card is available to employees currently working under the Central Government or central employees who have retired. ECHS card is made for retired army employees. In ECHS, you have to make a lump sum contribution. In CGHS, you have to make a monthly contribution based on salary and rank.
Which is more beneficial?
Both ECHS and CGHS cards are for central employees. But ECHS is only for employees retired from Indian Navy, Air Service and Air Force. CGHS card is available to central employees of all other ministries, MPs, judges. In ECHS, you have to contribute only once. Whereas in CGHS, you have to contribute every month. ECHS has a network all over the country. Whereas CGHS is in only a few cities of the country. In ECHS, you get the facility of getting treatment in Tier-I hospital. But not in CGHS. That is, overall, ECHS card is more beneficial than CGHS card.
