Pretty and lesser known festive market where a mulled wine costs less than £2

A cosy winter wonderland Christmas market in sells mulled wine for less than £2.

Wroclaw is regarded as one of the best and most beautiful markets in Poland, and serves mulled wine for a mere £2. The idyllic winter celebration spreads across the entire city, including Rynek Marquet Square, Place Solny, Świdnicka Street and Oławska Street. The market's fairytale atmosphere brings visitors from across Europe, and many from Poland itself as many start their pilgrimage to Wroclaw in late November. Entry is also free.

Stalls sell handmade crafts and treats, mulled wine, and delicious food. Mulled wine at the market costs only 15 PLN (£3.10), but you do have to pay a 15 PLN (£3.10) deposit for the mug. If you want to avoid the extra fee, then head to one of the many bars or restaurants surrounding the market where you can find a warm cup of for just 9 PLN (£1.86). It is also worth noting that the official stalls will only accept cash for mulled wine.

A Christmas tree will be lit on December 6 and other activities include regional and local cuisine, such as Oscypek — a smoked cheese from the polish mountains you won’t find anywhere else than in Poland. The cheese also comes with cranberries.

There is plenty of other stuff to do in the city including wandering the quaint cobbled streets, spotting fish and other wildlife at the Wroclaw zoo and aquarium, following a trail to discover the city's dwarf sculptures, or head to the oldest part of the city — Cathedral Island.

The city is also home to multiple free walking tours, if you are on a tight budget. Direct flights from Luton Airport cost £29, from London Stansted costs £39 return, from costs £54 return and from Liverpool costs £57 return.
