Piero Hincapie has explained why he decided to join Arsenal after officially completing a move to the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners confirmed the signing of the defender from Bayer Leverkusen on a season-long loan. It's understood that Arsenal also have the option to make the move permanent at the end of the campaign for a fee worth £45million.

Hincapie will be hoping to make his debut for Arsenal when the club returns to action after the international break. The Gunners will take on Nottingham Forest on home soil before returning to Champions League action a few days later where Athletic Club await.

Both matches present opportunities for debuts for Hincapie, who has now spoken about his decision to sign for the Gunners. The Ecuador international, who has been linked with a move to the Premier League in the past, listed two reasons why he chose to move to North London.

"To be honest, everything. I've always watched Premier League games and saw Arsenal play," Hincapie told Arsenal's club media when asked why he decided to join the Gunners.

"They've got an amazing manager as well as top-class players.

"I was convinced because they want to win big things and trophies. This was another motivation for me to come here."

Hincapie has become the eighth and final signing for Arsenal in what has been a busy summer transfer window. The defender joins Eberechi Eze, Viktor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke, Cristhian Mosquera, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard and Kepa Arrizabalaga in linking up with Mikel Arteta's squad.

Arteta will be hoping that Hincapie plays a key role in helping Arsenal win a major trophy this season, with the Premier League and Champions League priority targets after missing out last term.
