Mike Tyson training update provided ahead of Jake Paul boxing fight

MMA manager Ali Abdelaziz has provided an update on Mike Tyson's training ahead of his showdown with YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul next month.

Tyson was scheduled to fight the social media star back in July, but the boxing legend was forced to postpone his return to the ring after suffering from an inflamed ulcer. The American was advised to stop training on his doctor's orders but has recently returned to the gym and insists he will be ready to walk to the ring next month.

The clash between Paul and Tyson is now set take place on Friday, November 15 in Arlington, Texas at the AT&T Stadium in front of up to 90,000 fans. 'Iron Mike's' last professional outing came in 2005 when he lost to Kevin McBride. His last bout took place in an exhibition against fellow legend Roy Jones Jr behind closed doors in 2020. As for Paul, the 27-year-old defeated former UFC fighter Mike Perry back in July in his last outing.

Ahead of the clash with Paul, Tyson recently revealed he was struggling to walk after completing six rounds of sparring - further adding concern for his health ahead of the bout. However, Abdelaziz - who is a good friend of the boxing icon - insists the 58-year-old is in good shape ahead of his return. "Listen, as far as I know, his training camp is going good," .

"He's feeling amazing. I would like Mike Tyson to put a hole in his head. But, in a way, who are we to tell Mike Tyson not fight. I think Mike Tyson, win, or lose, or draw, [he is] one of the most recognisable figures in the sports history. Anywhere, in Africa, in Asia, America, everywhere. I think nobody has the place, but his family, to tell him to fight or not to fight. This is my opinion."

Abdelaziz was then asked for his thoughts as to why the event is being billed as 'Paul vs Tyson,' with 'The Problem Child's' name first, and the 46-year-old had a passionate response to the question. "Listen, if I'm fighting Mike Tyson, I want Mike Tyson's name to be first. Nobody knows who Jake Paul is. Jake Paul went to a PFL event and got booed out of the building, nobody gives a s*** about Jake Paul. He can't sell 100,000 pay-per-views. The only reason, he's using Mike Tyson to be relevant, he [Paul] is irrelevant."

He added: Let's be real, honestly, if it was me, I'd never want to fight somebody who is older than me. But he [Paul] is weak. He wants to pray on somebody older. But, I never doubt Mike Tyson. He trains with my friend Rafael Cordeiro, they're having a great camp, they keep pushing it. And guess what, I'm all the way for Mike Tyson."

While Abdelaziz is confident, many fans believe that the boxing legend is not taking the fight seriously after a staggering admission. During a recent chat with Jimmy Kimmel, 'Iron Mike' claimed he was training six hours a day. "I am training extremely hard, I do six hours a day. I start at 11am and might leave the gym at 5pm," he said. Kimmel looked stunned and replied: "Oh no. 11am? So that's six hours straight, or is there a lunch break?" The former heavyweight champion admitted there was a small break as a shocked Kimmel gasped: "Oh no."

In the same interview, when Tyson was asked if he intends to be high during his bout with Paul, he replied: “I’m going to be so high off life, yeah." Kimmel then asked: “Will you be high on marijuana, as well?" Tyson replied: "That’s a possibility, too." The host then commented: "Oh no my bet is getting lower as we talk."
