Michael Mosley's wife pays tribute in emotional first interview since his death

Michael Mosley's wife, Dr Clare Bailey Mosley, emotionally opened up about what life has been like since her husband's death.

The father-of-four died aged 67 after going missing on the island of Symi in June. In soaring temperatures, Michael had set off on foot from a beach heading for the accommodation in which he and his wife were staying. Clare raised the alarm hours later, but it was four days before his body was found in a rocky area after an extensive search.

Heartbreaking footage appeared to show the moment he collapsed due to the heat as he slowly walked down a hillside. His wife said at the time, he seemed to have embarked on an “incredible climb, took the wrong route, and collapsed where he couldn’t easily be seen.”

Greek authorities concluded Michael died of natural causes, but an inquest will take place next month in Buckinghamshire, where he lived.

Before the emotional segment on Monday's The One Show, Alex Jones told viewers: "But first tonight, we are remembering the work of Dr Michael Moseley, and I have been speaking to the person who knew him best.

"Dr Michael Mosely was well known and loved as a broadcaster who suggested we could do perhaps just one thing to improve our health and our lives. It was such a shock to all of us when he tragically died when on holiday in with his wife last summer, having suffered from what was most likely heat exhaustion.

"Today, his wife, Clare, has invited me here to their home to talk about all the brilliant work that Michael did, which will be captured in a final program to celebrate his life."

As Alex sat down with Clare, she began by asking her: "How are you doing? How are the children doing? You must still be processing what's happened to Michael."

Clare looked emotional as she replied: "Yes, I think we are. It's just as they say that it's kind of one day at a time, and it can hit you suddenly like pain, and then it settles, and actually, your body's quite kind to you as well because actually, we found that, you know, we were after Michael died, we were able to laugh and tell silly jokes as well, but we all miss him."

When asked what Michael was like as a husband, Clare explained he "was very shy", telling Alex: "A lot of people didn't recognise that because he's quite enthusiastic about what he's doing, and he was just kind and thoughtful. He absolutely loved his work, and whatever he did, he checked it out before he put it out there, and so I think that's one of the reasons people really trusted him."

Clare explained one of the things Michael was the "most proud of" was reversing his own diabetes. She said to this day, she still finds the chocolate she had hidden from her husband in their family home.

Tonight, viewers will also be able to watch Michael in a series which he was working on at the time of his death.

The two completed half-hour episodes continue the theme of Michael's Radio 4 podcast, Just One Thing. In the opening titles, Michael is seen playing , dancing, and taking a dip in a freezing tub. At one point, he and Clare sit and draw sketches of each other, giggling at the unrecognisable results.

Addressing the programme, Clare added: "I'm so proud of what he's done. I had so many lovely letters saying how important it was to what he'd been doing, and some of them made me cry."

The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One and Michael Mosley – Just One Thing airs at 8.30pm October 14 and 21 on BBC One at 8.30pm and BBC iPlayer. In addition, all episodes of his podcast will be repeated on Radio 4 from October 27
