A man has been after launching a ‘cowardly’ and ‘unprovoked’ attack on a woman in a pub in front of terrified patrons.
John Welsh, 61, pulled the innocent woman’s hair, chucked a bar stool at her, and hit her head on a chair. John, who is also known as Jackie, appeared before Llandudno Magistrates , where he was charged with assault causing actual bodily harm.
The court was told how John, who resides at Bodlondeb Terrace in Holyhead, assaulted the woman in an altercation at the George Hotel in Holyhead in the early hours of Monday, October 28. After being involved in an incident with another man at the pub, he proceeded to chuck his drink over the woman who was sitting next to the man.

When the woman attempted to push him away, in an angry and unprovoked attack John grabbed and threw a bar stool at her, before then lunging towards her. He then pulled her hair and hit her on the head with a chair. He also threw a glass across the bar before leaving the pub.
A short time after the attack took place, he was arrested by police. John admitted to the and was given 26 weeks in jail after a court case last Thursday. In addition, he has also been banned from entering all licensed premises in Anglesey, Gwynedd and Conwy for a period of two years.
Police Sergeant Chris Burrow, of the Ynys Mon Policing Team, said: "This was a shocking, cowardly and unprovoked attack on the victim, who didn't even know Welsh, which also left other people in the pub shocked and scared. Violence against women and girls will simply not be tolerated, and we will continue to work tirelessly to bring perpetrators to justice."
