Real Madrid star has been heavily criticised for a 'disgusting' challenge in the build-up to the quarter-final second leg against and has been warned he could face a lengthy ban.
The 26-year-old was in the first half of the La Liga clash against Alaves. Eduardo Camavinga’s first half goal proved to be the difference in what was a hotly-contested game that involved two red cards and several yellows.

Taking to social media, TV presenter and Arsenal fan shared a clip of the tackle and wrote: “Disgusting ‘tackle’ by Mbappe…vicious intent and could have broken the guy’s leg. Red card should be the very least of his punishment.”
Pundit Craig Burley also didn’t hold back on the challenge. Speaking to post match, he said: “It was a horrendous challenge and quite frankly, we touched on it at half time, disgraceful really the only way to describe it and that’s me being kind.
"If I could use some sort of profanity I would that’s how bad it is.
“So forget letting his team down, forget letting his manager down, forget letting himself down. "That’s almost a career-ending challenge.
"When you make no attempt to play the ball, as was the case here, and you have the intent to go in and challenge in that manner, the fact that Blanco’s stunds were not planted in the ground has probably saved him, because once the foot is planted in the ground and that challenge comes in there’s nowhere to go.
"The foot’s planted, the knee is there, so something has to give and usually that’s an ACL at best, or a broken leg.
“I’m not trying to embellish this sort of story here, that’s how bad that challenge was. Now we don’t know what they’re going to do in Spain in terms of governing bodies with suspension, but they’re going to come down on him as hard as they can.”
While the red card does mean that Mbappe will face a ban, the suspension will not be in effect for the UEFA Champions League. He will therefore still be available for Real Madrid in the second leg against Arsenal.
The Gunners take a 3-0 lead from the first leg into the reverse fixture at the . Goals from Declan Rice (x2) and Mikel Merino put Arsenal into a commanding lead ahead of the game at the Bernabeu.
