Emily Maitlis told off for swearing on air by co-star during US election coverage

Newsreader apologised after she was told off by her co-anchor for swearing live on air during the coverage of the US election.

As everyone sits on the edges of their seats waiting to find out whether Kamala Harris or will be made the US president, news channels around the have been rolling out discussions on what will happen during the next steps of the election. Over at , Emily and Krishnan invited a few guests on to the programme to talk about it.

However, it wasn't long before Emily let slip a swear word. She said: "It's not that they disagree about one thing. The whole thing is asymmetric. When and . Half of America was thinking, 'This is bats**t. I can't believe what he's saying. This is going to be the end of him'."

One guest looked shocked before Krishnan stepped in to say: "Stop swearing. I have to tell [the guests] off for swearing and then you do it," before she quickly apologised for her blunder. Last month, former President and convicted criminal Trump sparked controversy when he claimed that immigrants were stealing people's pets and eating them.

When he was shut down by the moderator at the presidential debate, Trump could be heard saying "I saw on TV..." The outlandish assertion referred to unfounded rumours, spread by his campaign that Haitian immigrants in Ohio are kidnapping and eating pets. This is despite Cleveland's city manager publicly refuting these claims, asserting there is no evidence to support them.

During his first debate with former President Trump told the millions of viewers: "They're eating the , the people that came in. They're eating the cats, they're eating the pets of the people that live there. And this is what is happening in this country and it is a shame."

As Trump made these remarks, Harris could first be seen holding back a laugh, before simply looking confused. Officials have confirmed there's no proof of Haitian immigrants in an Ohio community engaging in such activities. ABC moderator David Muir fact-checked him and said: "You bring up Springfield, Ohio, and ABC News did reach out to the city manager there. He told us there had been no credible reports of specific claims of pets being harmed, injured or abused by individuals within the immigrant community.”
