Chris McCausland reveals his one hope for Strictly Come Dancing as he shares concern

Comedian Chris McCausland admitted there is one thing he is hoping for during his time on Strictly Come Dancing.

The TV star, 47, is making history as the first blind contestant to compete on the BBC dance show. However, Chris has concerns about his dance abilities already as he admits he wants the cameras to be covered in foam. He revealed he is worried about knocking over three cameras at once.

Chris, who has retinitis pigmentosa, said: "I sincerely hope they will have wrapped the cameras in layers of foam just in case. I can see myself taking out three of them in a single foxtrot. To be honest, when Strictly asked me to take part my first thought was 'they must have swung a really good insurance deal'."

He added to the Daily Telegraph: "Contestants always say they have no idea what they are doing...I really don't. What even is a Charleston?" The dad-of-one also revealed he was asked to take part in the show last year but had other commitments at the time. Chris joked the Strictly bosses "wouldn't let it go".

The comedian revealed what kind of style he might bring to the ballroom. Chris told the Mirror: "I think what you're going to get from me is a certain degree of non-conformist dancing because I won't be able to see the precision of what I’m trying to achieve. I think there's going to be, by default, a certain degree of my own version more so than other people because how precise can somebody be teaching me in four or five days?

"It would be so much easier to watch and see what you’re trying to achieve. We'll see, it might work in my favour. It might not." He added: "I’ll take the show seriously but I won’t take myself seriously. If we can do something funny then I'm all for that. Maybe I can bring some visual comedy into the dances. I'll be up for having a laugh with the judges, Tess and Claudia, I will be more in my comfort zone for those moments."

Chris also said he feels he is in a unique position when it comes to being judged and being competitive on the show. He said: "I think it's really hard to be competitive with other people when you don't know what they are doing and how good they are. I won't be standing watching them every week and thinking I need to be better than that. I’ll be able to hear the judges’ comments but I suppose it would be like trying to copy a footballer by listening to the match report, so I think it's fair to say that I’ll be competing with myself each week instead."
