Chelsea told they'd be 'crazy' not to pursue £62m proven goalscorer amid Nicolas Jackson doubt

Ex-Chelsea defender Glen Johnson believes his former side would be crazy if they didn't try to sign striker Victor Osimhen in 2025. The Nigerian forward was heavily linked with a move to in the recent summer transfer window, but a move from Napoli would not come to fruition.

Osimhen was also heavily linked with clubs in Saudi Arabia, before a ending up going on loan to Turkish Superlig side Galatasaray after a falling out with the Italian club. The 25-year-old has enjoyed a bright start to life in Turkiye, with three goals and four assists in just five appearances.

Reports claim are still keen on signing the £62million rated striker, whose future at Napoli is up in the air after the Serie A side reportedly upped their asking price for Osimhen, after agreeing a deal with Saudi Arabia side Al-Ahli.

Enzo Maresca's side have made a bright start to the season and are currently sat in sixth place in the Premier League after defeat to leaders Liverpool at the weekend, though there remains question marks over their ability to score goals at will.

Speaking to , former Blues defender, Johnson, said: “I like [Nicolas] Jackson a lot but as I’ve said previously, I don’t know if he’s the type of forward that’s going to get you 15 to 20 goals a season. Osimhen going on loan to Galatasaray was crazy when you consider all the interest in him in the summer.

"Considering that he is available, then I do believe that Chelsea need to get him. Signing Osimhen could even push Jackson to improve because he will have to fight for his place. It would be crazy for Chelsea to not try and sign Victor Osimhen.”

The Nigerian international completed a season-long loan move to Galatasaray on September 4, with transfer windows across Europe already closed. It's a move that's kept the door open for Osimhen should a Premier League side opt to make a move in either the January or summer transfer window in 2025.

It's claimed there is a break clause that can allow clubs to sign Osimhen - in January - if they meet the £62.8million (€75million) release figure in his contract.
