Anthony Martial has expressed his delight at finally finding a new club after signing for AEK Athens.

The Frenchman left Old Trafford in the summer at the end of his contract and had been on the lookout for new employment ever since. Martial has now found his next employer after putting pen to paper on a lucrative deal with Greek side AEK Athens.

The former Monaco star has signed a three-year deal and will make an estimated £7.5million including bonuses should he fulfil that contract - the biggest salary that the club have offered in their history.

And Martial has shared his thoughts on finally being back. Speaking after his move to Greece was made official, the 28-year-old said: "I am very happy. AEK is an opportunity for me and I will give my best to achieve things, win trophies and bring joy to the world of the team."

Martial’s latest comments come just months after he had bid an emotional farewell to United and Old Trafford. He took to Instagram to announce his exit after nine years.

In an emotional statement, the striker wrote: “ Manchester United will always be in my heart. This club has left its mark on my career and offered me an incredible opportunity to play in front of you. I'm leaving to take on new challenges, I'll always be a Red Devil and I'll continue to follow the club's results with passion.”

Martial’s new club AEK are in action this weekend as they take on cross-city rivals Kallithea - a game that may come too soon for a debut. But he has already been backed to have a huge impact in the Greek Super League by ex-Red Devils team-mate Morgan Schneiderlin.

Speaking to Monobala, the French midfielder said: “I think (AEK play) his way of playing I’m sure he’ll have a great year, scoring a lot of goals. And he’ll enjoy AEK’s fast-paced style of play. He will help the team a lot. AEK is a strong team and Martial is the type of striker who can unlock closed defences and make the difference.”

“He’s a man who doesn’t need to talk much,” Schneiderlin added. “When you first meet him you think he’s cold, but he likes to laugh and is just an amazing guy.”

“I think he will be fantastic for both the Greek league and AEK. I believe that he should find joy in football and have an excellent season, while he will also bring great joy to the team.”

“He likes to play from the left and get into the area to create space. He also loves to compete as a striker. But when he plays from the left, he has better movements and can shoot with his right, while he also has excellent dribbling.”
