Amanda Abbington reveals ex Martin Freeman will be at her wedding next year and explains why

Amanda Abbington and may be no more, but the pair still hold a strong bond. In fact, it's so tight, the actress revealed her ex will be at her next wedding.

The duo met in 2000 on set and went on to work on several projects together. Behind the scenes, they started a life together in and welcomed two children - son Joe, 18, and daughter Grace, 16.

However, in 2016, the pair split, with Martin, now 54, later finding love again with French actress Rachel Benaissa, who is 22 years younger than him. Despite Amanda, 50, allegedly feeling "utterly helpless" after their split, it seems the pair are still close.

Now with Jonathan Goodwin, Amanda revealed the pair plan to tie the knot next year at a friend's UK-based farm. She explained to Closer Magazine that her daughter Grace will be her bridesmaid before being quizzed on Martin's role in the day.

When asked if he will attend, she said: "I would imagine so. We're still mates, we're still good friends. It's important to maintain a good, healthy relationship with your ex if you have children, I think."

Amanda met Jonathan online. The former star and actress first began interacting on /X in 2012. Speaking about their relationship she told The Guardian: "We were both in relationships at the time, but we admired each other's work and occasionally liked each other's tweets."

The pair eventually got together in 2021 when they were both single. Amanda likened wanting to be with him as a 'rat up a drainpipe'. "I had fancied him for a few years," she said. At the time their relationship consisted of online chats and hour-long phone calls as they were living in different parts of the .

Jonathan admitted he knew they would eventually marry and within 30 minutes of hugging each other after finally meeting, he popped the question. However, their fairytale romance received a bitter blow of reality when he suffered a major fall after his stunt went wrong.

The stunt man fell 30ft to the ground following a suspension stunt that went horribly wrong at America's Got Talent. Instead of landing on an air mattress, he was sandwiched between two cars that burst into flames. The incident happened just weeks after he had proposed.

Amanda went on to say that life has now become normal for her as Jonathan is fiercely independent. So much so, she sometimes forgets that he's in a wheelchair.

After Amanda and Martin's split, he remained tight-lipped on the whole. The former Sherlock star, however, revealed in July that t. He told the Financial Times at the time: "I'm not with Amanda anymore. It's very, very amicable — I'll always love Amanda."
